Equal Distribution of Offense
An acquaintance broadcasted her birthday party invitation on MSN. Theme parties seem to be the rage and hers was called “Orientals and Niggers”. Maybe for the MTV generation, the N word no longer carries the loaded meaning it used to have. In fact, this word has probably been appropriated by the African American community just like how Queer has been reclaimed by the gay community. However, shouldn’t we at least try to be equally hip and use Chink, Gook, FOB or Slant-eyed instead of Oriental?
