Shoddy journalism

Thursday, December 23rd, 2004

After reading Ian Tan’s latest article in The New Paper defending his shitty writting. I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s a moron.

The worst kind of people are those who write shit, and then defends it by saying “Ohhh….it’s my opinion.” Of course it’s your opinion lah. Whose else can it be? But please, at least have the decency and come up with some informed opinion, not sprout random bullshit just to sensationalise an article.

If you write about the Zen Micro for 90% of the article and then slot in a comment saying that it is better than the iPod without even mentioning about the latter, don’t hide behind the excuse that “all tech reviews are incomplete”. It’s not. It’s just badly written. Don’t blame it on “limited print space”, blame it on the inability to summarise information, blame it on bad editing, blame it on poor research.

Hack your iPod

Thursday, December 9th, 2004

So it’s bound to happen. Some guy figured out how to extract the graphics from the iPod’s firmware and a new wave of hack your iPod customisation begins.

Too bad the software is only for Windows.

Welcome to the Internet, biatch!

Macbiff got a cease and desist letter from HSBC for linking to their site in his post about internet banking for Mac users in Singapore. Apparently, if they state it in their policy that one cannot link to them without permission, they have to right to enforce that rule, as if it is the law. Maybe they have not heard of the internet, which oh horrors, is basically a whole tangle of hyperlinks.

In my opinion, Macbiff was doing them a favor, highlighting to the Mac community how to access their internet banking pages.

I hereby state that any cease and desist letter will incur a processing fee of SGD$1million.
