Beng your iPod

Sunday, September 26th, 2004

Remember how the Ah Bengs used to dress up mobile phone so that it lights up like a disco?

I remember during my days of National Service where the ceilings of my bunk would light up with multiple flashing patterns emitted from the laser pointers that were attached to my bunkmate’s mobile phone.

Now you can too with Griffin Technology’s latest offering; the iBeam. However, it just provides a standard flashlight and laser pointer. When the laser will start beaming patterns on the wall that moves and flashes in time with the music, put me in for 1 order.

del.icio.us and Flickr

Some good links:

del.icio.us is a bookmark manager website where you can add store your bookmarks. Now, why would you want to do that when bookmarks are already available in your browser? The bookmarks added to del.icio.us are in reverse chronological order, this means that you have a list of bookmarks that you can go through one by one without having it “lost” in your browsers bookmarks. Sort of like a “to read” list.

The interesting thing is that you can see what others have bookmarked and can also subscribe to their list if you find it interesting. You can tag the bookmarks with keywords so you can view bookmarks that fall under a specific category. It also supports RSS so you can subscribe to a feed for a particular keyword. For example, if you’re intrested in what other websites Mac users are bookmarking, simply subscribe to bookmarks tagged with the ‘Mac’ keyword.

And there’s an OS X client called Cocoal.icio.us that allows you to manage you del.icio.us bookmarks.

Flickr is another great online photo sharing site. Unlike other photo sharing sites, this one allows you to annotate the pictures by drawing little marquees on the picture itself, as well as add keyword tags to the pictures. Flickr also supports RSS feeds, which means that you can subscribe to a particular tag keyword. I’ve subscribe to a feed for photos tagged with the keywords Singapore, Tokyo and Macintosh. :) It will be interesting to see what turns up in my news reader.
